The cost is repetition, and the common failure is preparing so much identical food that it becomes unpalatable by the fourth day.
Preparing components rather than complete meals, such as a protein source and a grain separately, preserves some variety while retaining the reduction in effort.
Shopping frequency shapes what is possible
A weekly shop constrains the diet to what stores for a week, which favours frozen and shelf-stable items over fresh ones later in the cycle.
Planning fresh items for the early part of the week and more durable options for the later part avoids the pattern where the plan collapses on day five.
Freezing portions extends the useful window considerably and is the simplest way to make a single cooking session cover a longer period.
Eating away from home needs a default
Improvising in an unfamiliar setting produces inconsistent results, particularly when the choice is made while hungry and short of time.
Having a small number of default orders decided in advance removes that variability without requiring the setting to be avoided.
None of this is nutritional science, but it accounts for a larger share of outcomes than the details of macronutrient distribution usually do.
